August

My favorite season is over and it just went way too fast. Even though I always look forward to getting back on schedule, I just hate to see summer disappear. The month of August was so busy...I guess every month seems that way and I'm always trying to catch up somewhere. Rob and I celebrated our sixth year anniversary by going to the temple and out to dinner. It was pretty low key but I couldn't think of a better place to be to celebrate something that means so much to both of us.
This picture is really how our life is together. I feel like during the week I have to corner Rob to even talk to him (which is usually in the bathroom away from the chaos). It is all we can do to say hi to each other as we pass each other by going our different directions or I should say as Rob rushes in and out the door usually going to bishopric stuff. Thank goodness for weekends where we can reconnect on date night.
Rob sent me these flowers bless his little man heart. I usually tell him to not waste money on flowers but this was a fun surprise and you don't ever want to discourage that!
Also in August we went with our friends to a dam where the kids played at the beach and swam. I loves days like this just soaking in the rays next to some water.

We went out to dinner to surprise my Dad for his 80th birthday. My Mom did a great job keeping things under wraps so that he didn't suspect a thing. All of my brothers and sisters and my cute niece and husband were there (except one sister) to surprise him. It was great to be together and celebrate with him.

We went to my sister's house after wards for cake and ice cream. Everyone there stood up and gave a tribute to my Dad. We shared some fun memories with him. He is an amazing person who has helped me so much in my life. He has been a pillar of strength in our family and a man of faith. I've leaned on him a lot in my life.

Another August item was taking Jacob to the dentist. He had to have two teeth pulled. This kid is in third grade and we still can't get those teeth out. He was pretty nervous about it but he did great and acted like it was no big deal after the fact.
Matt and James got braces this month! Here we go....it's just beginning and it is just one reminder to me that I'm about to have a house full of teenagers.
The first day of school...kind of a bitter sweet moment for me. It was so nice to have the kids home. I really enjoyed them this summer and yet towards the last couple of weeks I was feeling like we needed to get back to routine. Matt, James, and Emily all go to the same school now. James is in 6th and has taken to it great and Matt and Emily are in 7th. They go in two shifts now...this is the first shift out the door.
Could a kid look more joyful about his first day of high school? Brandon started 10th grade this year which I'm still trying to get over.
Here is the second shift out the door. Riley is in 4th grade, Jacob in 3rd, and Megan in 2nd. They started a new school this year and were pretty nervous the first day but they have adjusted great (I'm still sad that I drive by their old school and can't see them out on the playground). It is also kind of weird that I'm down to only three in elementary school.
In August I also ran a half marathon. I would like to report that it was fun. We wore cute long socks like last year...that was fun but everything else just hurt and at the end I felt terrible. So what do you do after a bad 13 mile run? Sign up for the whole 26.2 to run three weeks later. That's what crazy stupid people do so that's what I did because when it comes to running, I fit into the crazy stupid category nicely.
Labor Day really ends the summer for me. That's when you know that fall is around the corner. It's time to break out the nachos and watch BYU football at our house. We were really lucky this year and got to go to the first BYU home game against Washington thanks to Rob's brother-in-law and wife, Ryan and Becky Jo. We left Ammon with Grandma but Brandon still painted his face.
We had to get all decked out in our blue even though Ryan and Becky Jo were cheering for Washington and wore purple. We had to be true to our team even though a few of my kids did wear Washington tattoos provided by Ryan (they felt the pressure).
Here we are at the game. It was really fun...especially because BYU won. It was a great game and we really appreciate Ryan and Becky Jo for taking us.

  1. Wait til your a grandma, time seems to go even faster.

Happy Anniversary! Maybe you need to CALL and schedule an appointment with Rob.

I wish I had a "fun run" on the Half. Good luck on your Marathon!! Wish I could be there to cheer you on and take pictures. I will have to send the Peach Days pictures to you.

Pretend I have your cell number and that I will be texting you "Good luck" on Saturday morning. You will do just fine. Remember how beautiful that route is!!

If you ever need any escorts to the BYU game I am sure Doran would sacrifice MUCH to go. Let us know.

  2. What a fun summer it has been! Love the picture of you and Rob and the phone. Good one! And I loved your Nauvoo post. It makes me want to go there. Next year? Pageant? If only we could figure out how to have those spiritual experiences here in every day life. I'm sure it's possible.
